Welcome!

Stand Up to Melanoma (SU2M) was created in honor of Deb Westman, loving wife and mother of two, who lost her courageous battle with metastatic melanoma on July 19, 2013.

deb3Deb was not going to let cancer interrupt her from living everyday to the fullest after being diagnosed in December 2010. And when the “standard” FDA-approved cancer treatments (e.g., surgery, interferon, chemotherapy) didn’t combat the inner monster, Deb never lost one ounce of hope.

su2cTHEN, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was presented to Deb. She was approached by Detroit Karmanos’ Dr. Patricia LoRusso and the Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) Melanoma Dream Team to become the very first patient treated on the very first SU2C melanoma drug. Deb knew with this would be her big break!

A combination of clinical trials and inner motivation, positivity, and strength transformed Deb into a true fighter. Deb undoubtedly fought long and hard with her whole being, but the cancer prevailed.

And so now, on behalf of Deb and others continuing their melanoma fight, it’s our turn to fight this hideous disease that doesn’t get the public attention it deserves.

  1. Kudos to an important cause and the wonderful champion behind it. I just met your mom once and immediately knew that she was a fine mom, great friend, loving wife and most of all someone who really made a difference to all she met and knew.

  2. Well, I am 53 and have Melanoma Stage IIIB and I look at her and she reminds me of myself…Wow! Still living life as if nothing happened to us. We might be weaker than most, and not hungry as everyone, and get a little upset with Melanoma not because it hurts us, but, because it hurts our love ones. May peace be with you and know as a Mother of 2 Sons we will always be watching…God Bless!

  3. Your Mom would be proud of your positive follow-up. Fond memories of your Mom and
the early golfing years with the grandmothers! Will continue to keep your family in our
thoughts and prayers! Dr. Bob,Patty, Colleen,Robert, and Bryan Forte
